It’s befitting that Wendy Fitzwilliam was chosen to launch my latest and perhaps, my most daring and exciting initiative ‘A Day in the life of…’
Wendy, this year is celebrating her twentieth anniversary since being crowned Miss Universe in Honolulu, Hawaii. Two decades later and with numerous accolades and awards and an eponymous Paediatric Hospital, Wendy continues to lead a busy lifestyle, both as a mother and a businesswoman.
When I approached Wendy to document a day in her life to launch my blog, without any hesitation, she said: “ anything for you, Andrea.”
I’ve always admired Wendy and having photographed her at a pre-show before Miss Trinidad and Tobago competition, I observed, not only her flawless beauty but her natural elegance and gracefulness, her confidence and self-assurance and that extra spark that made her stand out from others.
It was no surprise to me when Wendy dazzled the universe and walked away with its glittering crown on her head.
I’m extremely proud to launch my blog. ‘A Day in the Life of…’ with a woman I admire as a beauty queen, a businesswoman, and a mother.
I started Wendy’s day at 6:30 am and ended at 10:25 pm. It was the kind of day that can only be described, in Wendy’s words, as manic and manic it was in every sense of the word. We started off at her home and more than 15 hours later, ended at the finale of her show, ‘Caribbean’s Next Top Model’ at Hilton Trinidad.
On that day I experienced how hectic and demanding her life had become but even under intense pressure, Wendy was the embodiment of calm and control.
Over the last twenty years, I witnessed her being a beauty queen, a mother, and a businesswoman. I completely admire the tight relationship and strong bonds she has with her son, Ailan, whom she refers to as the Prices.
I now invite you to follow me on this journey as I document ‘ A day in the Life of’ Wendy Fitzwilliam.

It’s an early start to the day for Wendy and her son Ailan. By 6:30 a.m. they are in their well-designed functional kitchen preparing smoothies and fresh fruit. Ailan made the smoothie which he thoroughly enjoyed drinking while keeping an eye on mom Wendy expertly carving the watermelon, also part of the breakfast menu.
Getting ready to head out the front door to start what is likely to be long, hectic day. Already dressed in her running gears, Wendy changed from slippers into comfortable sports shoes
On her way to drop Ailan to school, Wendy used to an opportunity at every stop along the busy road to feed him watermelon bites. The loving bond between mother and son was clearly evident.
Now it was time for exercise. Wendy goes to the scenic and cool Botanical Gardens for her morning run, accompanied by her favorite music. Along the way, other people exercising recognize her famous face despite her low cap and huge shade.
Clocking 3.5 miles on her pedometer, there was still half an hour left for stretching and getting her body flexible and supple.
Still, in her exercise wear with the addition of a grey pullover, Wendy headed to Scotiabank to conduct business.
After the grueling workout at the Botanical gardens, It was time to be pampered. Wendy’s next top was Jencare Spa where she was treated to a facial, pedicure and manicure, In between her different treatments, Wendy snuck into a meal.
It was now time to return home to prepare for the finale of her popular television series, ‘Caribbean Next Top Model’ taking place later that evening. The important matter at hand was selecting an outfit to wear.
Sitting on the floor, Wendy goes through the process of selecting her jewellery.
Choices, choices, choices...decision on which pair of shoes to wear.
Next on her agenda was a business meeting at a restaurant at Town Restaurant on the Boulevard with Dane Lewis of Island People & Lewis Appliances. Looking elegant and chic Wendy continued to turn heads while deeply engrossed in her meeting with Dane.
A short drive away was to the home of fashion designer, Meiling, a close friend of Wendy’s. It’s also time to apply facial make-up to complete the full looks. Wendy expertly applied her make-up and the finished result was simply flawless and gorgeous.
Strutting gracefully, Wendy and Ailan, looking dapper in his trendy attire, arrive at Hilton Trinidad for the exciting finale of her Season 4 show.
Wendy meets with Mr. Delano Bart Q.C. & former A.G. of St. Kitts/Nevis who was a guest at the event. Here, she describes the concept behind the popular Caribbean series.
